Although preschools have less regulations in India, they register as a private educational institution or NGO, according to the NEP.
Gumasta Licence: Apply for any local municipal licences, fire safety clearances, health inspections, and other necessary permits.
Guidelines: Follow guidelines from organisations like the Ministry of Women and Child Development for health, safety, and curriculum standards.

Budgeting : Prepare a budget for buying or renting, decoration, furniture, staff salaries, utilities, and other operational costs.
Fee : Fees should be according to the locality and should be affordable.

Area : Classrooms, play areas, and restrooms should be safe and age-appropriate.
Security: CCTV cameras are a must, fire extinguishers the building must have 2 doors.

Parents brochure: Print parent handbook with policies of admissions, attendance, fees, and safety.
Operational Policies: Draft policies for staff code of conduct, child safety, emergency procedures, and health guidelines.
9. Continuous Improvement
Open the Preschool: Plan a soft launch, open days, or trial classes for initial enrollments.
Feedback: Collect feedback from parents and teachers to improve your preschool services over time.
Starting a preschool requires a blend of educational expertise, careful planning, and compliance with regulations. Following these steps can help you set up a preschool that is safe, engaging, and beneficial for young children.

STORIES
THE THIRSTY CROW
One day a crow was feeling very thirsty, he looked for water here and there, at last he saw a part of water but there was very little water in the pot, so he thought of a plan, he collected some stones and put into the pot one by one, the water came up the crow drank the water and flew away feeling very happy
Moral of the story : use your common sense
LAZY JOHN
There was boy named John who was so lazy, he wouldn't even bother to
change his clothes. One day, he saw that the apple tree in their yard was full
of fruits .He wanted to eat some apples but he was too lazy to climb the tree
and take the fruits. So he lay down underneath the tree and waited for the
fruits to fall off. John waited and waited until he was very hungry but the apples never fell.
Moral: Always work hard.
THE FOX AND THE GRAPES
Once there was a hungry fox who stumbled upon a vineyard.
After seeing the round, juicy grapes hanging in a bunch, the fox drooled.
But no matter how high he jumped,he couldn't reach it. So he told himself that it was probably sour and left. That night ,he had to sleep on an empty stomach.
Moral : Never run after out of reach things.
Urriculum Planning
How to write your own curriculum
A well-rounded kindergarten curriculum should focus on holistic development, combining academics with social, emotional, and physical skills that prepare children for primary school and life. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of key elements in an ideal kindergarten curriculum:
1. Language and Literacy Development
Phonemic Awareness: Focus on helping children recognize and manipulate sounds in spoken words, which is foundational for reading. Activities like rhyming games, clapping out syllables, and identifying initial sounds can be helpful.
Letter Recognition and Writing: Introduce the alphabet, both uppercase and lowercase letters, and encourage recognition and writing of letters.
Vocabulary Building: Teach children new words and concepts through storytelling, picture books, and classroom discussions.
Reading Readiness: Begin early reading by teaching simple words and phrases, allowing children to identify sight words, recognize words in context, and understand story structures.
Storytelling and Comprehension: Use picture books to enhance listening skills, comprehension, and imagination. Ask questions about the story to encourage children to think about plot, characters, and main ideas.
Speaking and Listening Skills: Encourage children to speak clearly, listen attentively, and express themselves through storytelling, show-and-tell, and other group activities.
2. Mathematics Skills
Number Recognition and Counting: Help children recognize numbers from 1 to 20 or beyond, and practice counting objects, writing numbers, and ordering them sequentially.
Basic Addition and Subtraction Concepts: Introduce basic addition and subtraction using physical objects (like toys or blocks) and teach children to combine or separate groups.
Shapes and Spatial Awareness: Teach children about basic shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle) and help them identify these in their environment. Explore concepts like "big" vs. "small" and "above" vs. "below."
Patterns and Sequencing: Engage children in activities to identify and create simple patterns (e.g., colour patterns, size patterns). This helps build critical thinking and analytical skills.
Measurement and Sorting: Teach children simple measuring concepts, such as long vs. short or heavy vs. light, and help them categorise and sort objects by colour, shape, or size.
3. Science and Nature Exploration
Observing the Environment: Encourage children to observe plants, animals, weather, and other natural elements around them.
Basic Physical Science Concepts: Introduce simple topics like sink and float, magnetic and non-magnetic, and the concept of cause and effect through hands-on experiments.
Nature and Seasons: Teach children about the different seasons, types of weather, and how these affect plants, animals, and people.
Body Awareness and Health: Cover basics of human biology, such as body parts and senses. Teach children healthy habits like washing hands, eating well, and exercising.
4. Social and Emotional Development
Self-Understanding and Emotional Awareness: Help children understand their emotions, identify feelings, and express themselves in words rather than actions.
Interpersonal Skills: Teach children about sharing, taking turns, listening, and cooperating. Role-playing can help them practise these skills.
Independence and Responsibility: Encourage children to complete simple tasks on their own, like packing their bags or organising toys. Responsibility can also be developed through small classroom jobs.
Conflict Resolution and Empathy: Teach children to manage conflicts in a calm manner and understand how others feel through discussions and role-play.
5. Physical Development and Motor Skills
Gross Motor Skills: Engage children in activities like running, jumping, climbing, and balancing, which help develop larger muscles and coordination.
Fine Motor Skills: Provide activities like colouring, drawing, cutting with scissors, and threading beads to help children build fine motor control.
Health and Physical Awareness: Include basic exercises, stretching, and dancing, and teach children about the importance of physical activity for health.
6. Creative Arts
Visual Arts: Include painting, drawing, cutting, pasting, and modelling with clay. These activities help with motor skills and creativity.
Music and Movement: Teach basic songs, rhymes, and rhythm exercises, which can enhance language skills and coordination. Movement activities with music can also be fun and promote self-expression.
Drama and Role-Playing: Role-play or dramatise stories, which can enhance imagination, social skills, and empathy.
7. Life Skills and Environmental Awareness
Basic Life Skills: Teach children skills like dressing, cleaning up, organising their belongings, and basic table manners.
Environmental Awareness: Start early awareness about the environment by teaching children about plants, animals, recycling, and respecting nature.
8. Cognitive and Thinking Skills
Problem Solving and Logical Thinking: Encourage activities that build problem-solving abilities, such as simple puzzles, sorting games, and matching exercises.
Memory and Attention: Use memory games and activities that help children focus, like listening exercises or following multi-step instructions.
Imagination and Curiosity: Give children time for free play and exploration, allowing them to pursue their curiosity and use imagination.
Sample Daily Schedule
A typical kindergarten day might look like this:
1. Morning Circle Time: Greetings, calendar review, weather discussion.
2. Literacy Activity: Storytime, followed by a related activity (e.g., drawing a favourite character or identifying sight words).
3. Snack and Break Time: Healthy snacks, bathroom breaks, and free play.
4. Maths/Science Activity: Hands-on activity focused on counting, shapes, or a simple science experiment.
5. Physical Activity: Outdoor play or gym exercises.
6. Creative Arts: Painting, crafts, or music.
7. Life Skills and Social Interaction: Role-playing games or discussions about feelings and social interactions.
8. Wrap-up and Reflection: Reflect on the day's activities and pack up.
A curriculum that combines academics with a focus on emotional, social, and physical development will help children develop skills across all areas in a balanced and age-appropriate way.
